Project Title:

The Foraging Walls 2020

Project Summary:

Purchases and will plant apple trees and high bush blueberries, and raspberry bushes. Planned to conduct 3 in class sessions with grades 4-6 students in three local schools. The sessions were on the importance of fruit trees and bushes to the environment and to wildlife. We will also be emphasizing where our food comes from and how pollination works.

We conduct an in-field session at the 3 schools on how to plant fruit trees and bushes and will have the three groups of students, with the guidance of trained staff, plant the fruit trees and bushes.

This has been postponed due to the COVID-19 shutdown in March 2020.

The main purpose of the project is still to educate and encourage children to learn more about planting, caring for, and the various reasons for planting fruit trees and bushes. We want to give the students an appreciation, love and knowledge of growing fruit trees and bushes. We want to give the students an appreciation, love and knowledge of growing fruit for themselves and for wildlife. The secondary outcome is that the fruit and berries not consumed by the children will be used by the wildlife in those areas. The trees and shrubs will also provide habitat for wildlife.
